Wound Care Nurse
Wound Care Nurses use WoundFollowUp to review photos taken by a Visiting Nurse or by the patient.
Screen grabs of the Wound Image Program showing the nurse enlarging a cell-phone picture of a scratch
-
The wound care nurse can:
- download all the wound images for her clinic - whether they are sent by visiting nurses or by patients. (The WoundFollowUp program will download all images and automatically put them into each patient's file.)
- review each patient file to see all those who sent a new photo today
- enlarge photos to full size
- view previous photos to monitor progress
- email photos and a note to a medical colleague (a dermatologist for example) for further advice
After reviewing a patient file and photos, the wound care nurse will phone or email the people caring for the wounds with treatment advice or words of encouragement.
Ostomy pilot Trial
-
In a pilot trial we tested the usefulness and ease of use of WoundFollowUp with 8 stoma patients. They were all able to:
- take pictures of their ostomy either by cell phone or digital camera
- send the images by email or by the WoundFollowUp web-upload
They were all able to do this without trouble and said that it would be very helpful to new ostomy patients.
In the pilot trial, the nurse was not permitted to give medical advice, but the patients really liked her phone calls responding to the images they sent.
