Patient Username and Registration – by a visiting nurse

Use the patient identification system your clinic or hospital regularly uses. For example “p12345” or “CES” or “MarySmith”. Avoid wholly numeric usernames (these get confused with phone numbers!).

Usually the username is set by the Wound Care Nurse when she enters a new patient into the Wound Image Program. You will know who you are going to see and what their usernames are.

For a new patient, you can phone the clinic and get a username.

In the case that your district is large and out of communication, you need to invent a new username for a new patient. For some clinics in remote areas, this will happen a lot. You need to find some way to make a new username which will not conflict with one already in the clinic. Maybe put your initial in front of the patient’s initials to be sure the new username is the only one in the clinic.

Pictures sent in by visiting nurses always have the clinic as well as the username eg aab.p12345 . Emails with attached pictures are sent to aab.p12345@wfuemail.com for example
